Police Investigate Case of Death of Four People in CSB Mall Septic Tank

Cirebon City Police are still investigating the alleged deaths of four people in the CSB Mall septic tank in Cirebon, Tuesday.

CIREBON, KOMPAS — The Cirebon City Police Criminal Investigation Unit is still investigating the alleged death of four people in the septic tank in Cirebon Super Blok or CSB Mall in Cirebon, West Java, Tuesday (9/4/2024). The police are continuing to examine a number of witnesses related to the case.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Cirebon City Police Adjunct Commissioner Anggi Eko Prasetyo said that his party received a report of an incident at a mall in Cirebon City on Tuesday at 14.00. "The information is that four people died while repairing the drains at the mall, (to be precise) the septic tank," he said.

The four victims were TY (40) and MM (32) who were residents of Harjamukti District; as well as F (32) and TA (35) who were each residents of Kapetakan and Plumbon. According to Anggi, the victims often worked as electrical technicians at the shopping center.

Based on information from witnesses collected by the police, the incident occurred at 11:00. Then, according to Anggi, two victims fell into a septic tank with a depth of six meters and a diameter of 1 m x 1 m. Then, two other people came to rescue the victims.

"However, a similar situation has also occurred, resulting in, based on information during the first evacuation, the victims were found lifeless," said Anggi. His team, along with the fire department and relevant agencies, immediately evacuated the victims.

Regarding indications of work accidents or negligence in operational procedures, his party cannot confirm yet.

"In relation to that, we are still conducting further investigation, questioning witnesses, and gathering data. We are also still waiting for medical examinations related to that," he said.

Two of the victims fell into a 6-meter deep and 1m x 1m diameter septic tank. Then, two others came to rescue the victims.

"Of course, the parties involved, whoever they may be, based on the information we will later obtain, we will invite to clarify. Everything is still being investigated," said Anggi.

Suprapto (41), a relative of the victim with the initials MM, is urging the police to thoroughly investigate the case of the death of four people in a septic tank at a shopping mall. He believes there is something suspicious because MM, who was on vacation, was suddenly called to the mall on Tuesday around 1 p.m. At that time, the victim was visiting his house.

"He kept getting telephone calls from CSB (Mall), he said there was a victim. What happened? I ask. He said, my friend entered a septic tank, was electrocuted and died there. I asked, 'have you reported it to the police yet? "It should be reported," said Suprapto, imitating his conversation with the victim.

Kompas has attempted to contact CSB Mall Mall Manager Adwin Nugroho. However, until the news was published, he had not responded to the message.
