Final Direction of Political Party Support to Become Apparent
Final Direction of Political Party Support to Become Apparent. The PPP’s prospective presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election was decided at the Rapimnas in Sleman, Yogyakarta on Tuesday (25/4/2023).
JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The decision of the United Development Party (PPP) on its prospective presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election to be announced today, Wednesday (26/4/2023), is predicted to encourage other political parties to immediately make their decision. Thus, the final direction of each party’s support in the 2024 presidential election is anticipated to be revealed immediately. There are three prospective presidential candidates predicted to lead.
The PPP’s prospective presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election was decided at the PPP National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) in Sleman, Yogyakarta on Tuesday (25/4/2023). However, the decision will only be announced today.
"The decision was determined earlier. The result will be announced by the acting PPP chairperson [Mardiono] tomorrow [today], "said chairman of the PPP Advisory Council Romahurmuziy when contacted by Kompas on Tuesday night.
In the PPP Rapimnas, four party assemblies, namely the Advisory Council, the Expert Council, the Sharia Council and the Honorary Council, conveyed the results of the evaluation of the two prospective presidential candidates who were widely proposed by the PPP, namely Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan. The evaluation was based on track record, historical closeness with the PPP and whether or not there was the emotional relationship with the PPP extended family.
"Mas [Brother] Ganjar does have a more opportunities to be linked to the PPP in the above aspects," said Romahurmuziy.
PPP Rapimnas also assigns the management of the PPP central executive board (DPP) to fight for a vice presidential candidate who has a PPP member identification card, alias a PPP cadre. "Of course it is taken with negotiations with political parties where the presidential candidate comes from," he said.
Part of NU
Chairman of the PPP DPP for the PPP Election Winning Team Yunus Razak confirmed that the PPP presidential candidate would lead to Ganjar. Apart from historical considerations, this was also from considering the electability of Ganjar.
"The historical aspect used as the consideration is the background of the Ganjar family which is part of NU [Nahdlatul Ulama], while the NU was the organization that founded the PPP. He is also surrounded by families who have and are still active in the PPP. The most important thing is also consistency in support, from backing Ganjar to becoming the governor of Central Java, and now God willing, the PPP supports him to become a presidential candidate in the 2024 election," he said.
Executive director of Indonesian Political Parameter Adi Prayitno predicted that the PPP having made its decision for its presidential candidate would encourage other political parties that had not yet decided to immediately make a decision. Similarly, for a number of political parties whose candidates were not in demand by other political parties, if the decision was not taken immediately, political parties risked being abandoned or their bargaining position weakening. This would make it difficult, for example, to propose certain figures to become vice president.
"All parties begin by offering high calls, but eventually they will be realistic. If the presidential candidates who are carried by the party do not sell, do not get a positive response from other parties, the target of the coalition foundations will be those who already have big names, such as Ganjar, Prabowo [Gerindra presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto] and Anies," he said.
Political parties that have not yet made a decision related to the presidential candidates are the National Mandate Party (PAN). Eight other political parties that have representatives in the People’s Consultative Assembly/the House of Representatives and are entitled to carry the presidential-vice presidential candidates already have their respective candidates.
In addition to Ganjar who is backed up by PDI-P and Prabowo who is backed by Gerindra, there is Anies Baswedan who is supported by the NasDem party, the Democratic Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). Golkar decided to support its general chairman, Airlangga Hartarto. PKB also supports its general chairman, Muhaimin Iskandar.
Prabowo’s get-together
In the midst of increased political dynamics, throughout Tuesday, Prabowo held a Lebaran get-together with a number of his seniors while still serving in the Indonesian Military (TNI). He visited TNI (Ret.) Gen. Try Sutrisno, TNI Gen. (Ret.) AM Hendropriyono, TNI Adm. (Ret.) Widodo Adi Sutjipto, TNI Gen. (Ret.) Agum Gumelar and TNI Gen. (Ret) Wiranto.
In addition, Prabowo also visited the Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD.
After the meeting with Mahfud, Prabowo said that the meeting was limited to a get-together. He also invited Mahfud to his residence in Hambalang, Bogor. Mahfud agreed. "Later when it is loose. Right now, it's still in an Idul Fitri atmosphere," Mahfud said.
Hendropriyono and Wiranto said they were happy to be visited by Prabowo. According to Hendropriyono, Prabowo is a junior figure who always appreciates and never offends his seniors.
Meanwhile, Wiranto stressed that the importance of cooperation was still established within the framework of Prabowo as the defense minister and himself as the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council.
Anies Baswedan’s strategies
NasDem DPP chairman Sugeng Suparwoto said the Coalition of Change for Unity (NasDem, Democrats, PKS) is formulating the winning strategies for Anies. "We have now gone further by formulating strategies and policies that have been believed up together," he said.
The strategies, according to PKS DPP chairman Mardani Ali Sera, consolidate social media-based forces to target young groups, the KPP is targeting to gather 2 million witnesses to oversee around 800,000 polling stations in the 2024 elections.
We have now gone further by formulating strategies and policies that have been believed up together.
"The witness recruitment has begun because they will also play a role in the future campaign period. One volunteer is targeted to get at least 10 votes," said Mardani.
In addition, the coalition member is said to continue political communication. PKS president Ahmad Syaikhu, for example, planned to meet East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. ( Z 1 1 )
