DENPASAR, KOMPAS – Two Chinese citizens are reportedly arrested by the Directorate General of Immigration because they have an intention to stage a demonstration to reject the G20 Summit in Bali. They were arrested because they violated immigration rules, which means doing things not according to their stay permits.
This was revealed by acting Director General for Immigration Widodo Ekatjahjana on Saturday in Bali. As stated on the official website of Director General Immigration that the two were holders of limited visa permits connected with their work and they are prohibited from carrying out any political activities in Indonesia. The two arrested Chinese are HCC and YX.
"It's true, I have received a report from the Director of Intelligence and the Director of Wasdakim (Immigration Supervision and Enforcement) that there were two Chinese nationals planning a demonstration during the G20 Summit," said Widodo.
Two Chinese citizens were detained by Immigration officials in Jakarta on Friday (11/11/2022). From them officials found several evidences which show efforts to provoke the masses to hold a demonstration against the G20 Summit in Bali, which will be held from Nov.15-16/2022.
"I have ordered that anticipatory steps be taken for security and an examination be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the legislation, as well as coordinating with the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," said Widodo.
According to Widodo, security measures by officers were taken because the two foreigners from China had limited visa holders in order to work, so they were prohibited from carrying out political activities in Indonesia.
Both were deemed to have violated immigration rules for carrying out activities that were not in accordance with the pocketed residence permit.
“They violated immigration rules and they do things which are not according to the rules or violate their stay permits and do provoke people to stage a demonstration at G20 Summit event. I have ordered Director of Wasdakim to take stern action but be humanistic and in accordance with rules and coordinating with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant authorities, Widodo said.
Regarding this matter, chief of Regional Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry for Bali province Anggiat Napitupulu while confirming the two people arrests said that the confirmation is directed to Director-General Immigration.
“It can be confirmed to the Public Relations division of Director-General Immigration,” he said.
When contacted the Public Relations division of Director-General Immigration, it did not respond to confirmation request.
