The Birthday of Pancasila on June 1 was commemorated in a number of places by abiding by to health protocols. June 1 was a national holiday.
June 1 was designated as the birthday of Pancasila by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo through Presidential Decree No. 24/2016. President Jokowi was the inspector of a ceremony at the Bogor Palace.
In his speech, the President reminded the nation that along with the technological development, Indonesia must be aware of the increasing rivalry and competition, including rivalry among views, rivalry among values and rivalry among ideologies. Transnational ideology tends to increase, entering various lines of people\'s lives in various ways and strategies.
We underline the President\'s reminder. Pancasila as the basis of the state faces big challenges, especially in the implementation of the principles of Pancasila. When the challenges are not immediately resolved, the offer of foreign ideologies will find a fertile situation to spread.
In the current pandemic, the value of mutual cooperation in the community appears in many areas. Civil society is willing to become volunteers to help fellow humans. The spirit of voluntarism among Indonesian civil society is indeed extraordinary. Companies collaborate to carry out a gotong royong (mutual cooperation) movement to accelerate vaccinations. The spirit of collaborating to help the country face the pandemic is felt. That is the real manifestation of grounding the values of Pancasila in practice.
Unfortunately, during the current crisis, there are still state officials who have the heart to corrupt disaster funds that should be allocated to the poor. There are still officials who have the heart to obtain the benefits of the policies issued. There are also companies that take advantage of public panic by falsifying medical test kits for personal gain. Such officials are clearly immoral and do not give meaning of the values of Pancasila and do not deserve to be officials.
Justice is a big problem. Social justice is the principle that has the most “suffering” compared to other principles. The pandemic will widen social and economic inequalities. Do not further burden our nation with any legal injustice.
One of the factors that is further widening social and economic disparities is the increasingly rampant practice of corruption, not only in Jakarta, but also in the regions. A regent was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for trading positions. Ironic.
When corruption as one of the causes of social injustice is increasingly spreading, the strategy needed is to strengthen the KPK, not weaken it. When the KPK is in short of staff, what it has to do is to increase them, not fire them. President Jokowi as the head of government and head of state needs to be firm with anyone who ignores his orders.
