Yoga with Pigs

While participants assume cobra, dove, or crow poses, three pigs roam around.

SPENCER, WEDNESDAY — Yoga has long been believed to be a way to gain peace of mind and physical fitness. Some yoga movements are also named after animals. In the State of Massachusetts, United States, there is a modification: yoga with pigs.

Reported by Associated Press on Thursday (23/5/2024), the yoga class was held by Beyond Yoga and Wellness in Spencer. One of the small towns in Massachusetts is now receiving residents from surrounding areas due to the pig yoga session.

Yoga enthusiasts at Ashley Bousquet's studio perform movements known as cobra pose, pigeon pose, and crow pose. Among them, three pigs named Wilbur, Charlotte, and Bluey move around. Bousquet borrowed the pigs from her friend's farm.

"The best thing about practicing yoga with pigs is definitely the cute pigs. They are enjoyable. When you want to take a break, they come closer," said one participant of the pig yoga class, Stacey Delbridge.

Another participant, Amy Finkel, also came with her daughter. She keeps a photo of one of her children hugging one of the pigs. It's no different than hugging a bunny. "They are happy and content. That's the goal," she said.

She admitted to enjoying yoga with animals. Their presence helps her focus on the practice. "At my age, I sometimes struggle to concentrate," she said.

Bousquet, who owns a yoga studio, mentioned that he has a lot of class enthusiasts. He had to manage participants through online registration. It only took a few hours to get participants for each class. (AP)
