The President wants the Bulango Ulu Dam to be completed by the end of 2024

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Bulango Ulu Dam in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province , targeted for completion by the end of 2024. This multifunctional dam will support the agricultural sector and support the provision of raw water.

During his working visit, President Joko Widodo inspected the construction of the Bulango Ulu dam in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province, Monday (22/4/2024). "(The dam) will be completed, God willing, by the end of this year," said President Jokowi in a statement to journalists after an inspection at the Toto Kabila Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Bone Bolango Regency.

During a visit to the Dam, the President was accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimoeljono, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament Rachmat Gobel, Acting Governor of Gorontalo Ismail Pakaya, and Regent of Bone Bolango Merlan Uloli.

Ismail even hopes that the Bulango Ulu Dam can be completed and inaugurated before President Jokowi ends his term of office. Nevertheless, in the Gorontalo Province news on March 16 2024, it was stated that there were still several plots of land that had to be acquired. Some of the plots of land belong to the Gorontalo Provincial Government, such as the Bulango Ulu 1 Public High School and the Bone Bolangu Government Middle School and Elementary School. For educational facilities, new land is immediately sought so that school buildings can be built immediately by the PUPR Ministry.

"In essence, replacement land will be sought for government assets located in this area. If there are buildings, new ones will be built," said Ismail after inspecting the construction of the dam on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Up until mid-March 2024, the total land requirement reaches 1,723 plots with an area of 1,196 hectares. Of that total, 1,161 plots or 781 hectares have already been paid for.

In essence, for government-owned assets in this location, replacement land will be sought. If there are buildings, new ones will be built.

Bulango Ulu Dam is one of the National Strategic Projects that has been under construction since 2019 by PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero). One of the benefits of this dam is providing irrigation water for a 4,950 square meter agricultural area. "The reservoir will increase the productivity of agriculture and plantations in Gorontalo and surrounding areas because it is a huge reservoir that can hold 84 million cubic meters," added the President.

Multifunction

According to Operations Director I PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) Muhammad Toha Fauzi on the site www.brantas-abipraya.co.id on February 13 2024, with a capacity of 84.1 million cubic meters , it is hoped that the three irrigation areas, namely DI Alale, DI Lomaya, and Di Pilohayanga, can be fulfilled.

The reservoir will increase the productivity of agriculture and plantations in Gorontalo and its surrounding areas because this reservoir is really huge, capable of holding 84 million cubic meters.

As a multifunctional dam, the Bulango Ulu Dam will also meet the raw water needs of 2,200 liters per second and has the potential to serve as a source of electricity with a capacity of 4.96 MW. In addition, the dam will control floods in the downstream area of the Bolango River by reducing flood discharge up to 414 cubic meters per second.

The ability of the dam to secure and utilize water resources is supported by the wide reservoir area of 483 hectares. The Bulango Ulu Dam will bring benefits to the cities of Gorontalo, as well as the Gorontalo and Bone Bolango regencies.

With construction costs reaching IDR 2.42 trillion, this project has achieved physical progress of 48.4 percent as of April 2024.

Health Equipment

In Bone Bolango Regency, President Jokowi also visited Toto Kabila Hospital. Health equipment that has been sent from the central government is monitored, as are existing facilities in hospitals.

"So our equipment, which has arrived here CT scan for around IDR 20 billion, has been operated well. Which is not yet a cath lab the same as (equipment for) mammography. "We will work on it soon," said the President in his statement to journalists after the inspection.

The facility in the form of rooms to increase the capacity of hospitals is also recognized as inadequate. Therefore, the President requested that the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, immediately follow up on the proposal for the construction of the regional public hospital.

"Earlier I ordered the Minister of Public Works, the proposal has been submitted," said the President.

From Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province, President Jokowi continued his journey to Mamuju Regency in West Sulawesi. On Tuesday (23/4/2024), the President will carry out a working visit to Mamuju and Mamasa Regencies in Sulbar.
