JAKARTA, KOMPAS — In order to uncover the fatal shootout between police officers that led to the death of Brig. J, full name Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, the National Police has examined surveillance footage, including travel footage from Magelang, Central Java, to Jakarta. The footage reportedly contained facts related to the incident.
National Police public relations head Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo explained on Sunday (24/7/2022) when contacted from Jakarta that police had secured surveillance footage that could provide evidence on how Nofriansyah had been killed.
The footage gathered was taken not only around the site of the shooting, namely in the National Police residence at the Duren Tiga Police Complex in South Jakarta occupied by the (nonactive) head of the Profession and Security Division, Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo. However, other footage of the trip from Magelang to Jakarta had also been obtained.
Earlier, Nofriansyah's father Samuel Hutabarat revealed that his son’s wife had communicated with Nofriansyah on the day of the incident, Friday, 8 July. Nofriansyah told her at that time that he was accompanying Ferdy Sambo and his family on a trip from Magelang to Jakarta.
The shootout was allegedly triggered by Nofriansyah's act of harassing Ferdy's wife, Putri Candrawathi.
However, the next day, the family found that Nofriansyah’s body had been returned to his hometown in Jambi. The police said at that time Nofriansyah had been killed as a result of being involved in a shootout with Bharada (Second Agent) E at Ferdy's official residence. The shootout was allegedly triggered by Nofriansyah's act of harassing Ferdy's wife, Putri Candrawathi.
Furthermore, Dedi said, no surveillance footage had been recorded at Ferdy's official residence. He said the surveillance camera at the official residence had been damaged before the shootout occurred.
Description of the incident
For the sake of investigation, Dedi said, the footage obtained was still being examined and analyzed at the National Police Forensic Laboratory (Labfor). Investigators were recalibrating and matching the time between the collected footage. This was because the time of the shooting must by synchronized between the cameras at various locations in order to obtain a complete picture of the incident.
Although he did not specify the contents of the footage, Dedi said that interrelated facts had been found from several video clips. "Yes, all are linked. Of course, it is still being analyzed scientifically by Labfor," he said.
The National Police are investigating three reports that relate to the death of Nofriansyah. The first report alleges that Nofriansyah’s killing was premeditated murder, which was submitted by the legal team of Nofriansyah’s family to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim).
Two other reports were received by the Jakarta Police, namely the alleged sexual harassment of Ferdy's wife, Putri, which Putri submitted. Another report alleged the attempted murder of Putri, who was a model, which was made by the police.
However, after nearly a month of investigating the incident and the three reports related to the incident, the police have not yet named a suspect. Dedi said investigators from the Bareskrim and Jakarta Police were still investigating the three reports. The National Police were committed to working professionally and using scientific methods.
For this reason, the investigation team was still examining evidence and a number of witnesses, including Bharada E, who was still considered as a witness. "When the examination of the witnesses and so on are finished, it will be disclosed if a suspect has been identified," said Dedi.
Earlier, Kamaruddin Simanjuntak, part of the legal team of Nofriansyah's family, said that the police had named a suspect in connection with the allegation of Nofriansyah’s premeditated murder. He made the statement when he accompanied Nofriansyah’s family to give information to the Jambi Regional Police on Saturday (7/23).
Another death threat was received on 7 July, the day before Nofriansyah was killed (Kompas.id, 23/7/2022).
Kamaruddin also mentioned that the legal team had received new evidence concerning death threats made against Nofriansyah via online messages. The first death threat was received at the end of June. Another death threat was received on 7 July, the day before Nofriansyah was killed (Kompas.id, 23/7/2022).
In response to Kamaruddin’s statement, the Bareskrim criminal acts director Brig. Gen. (Pol) Andi Rian Djajadi said that investigators had not declared a suspect in the case. Andi was reluctant to say whether the alleged death threats against Nofriansyah, which Kamaruddin had revealed, were part of the police investigated or not. "Just ask those who made the claim, don't ask me," he said.
TNI support
According to the plan, the National Police will conduct a second autopsy on Nofriansyah's body on Wednesday (7/27) to investigate the allegation of premeditated murder made by the legal team of Nofriansyah’s family. For this, the investigators involved experts from the Indonesian Forensic Doctor Association (PDFI) as well as the Indonesian Military (TNI).
TNI commander Gen. Andika Perkasa said the soldiers involved in the autopsy were forensic doctors who served at the Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital and were also members of the PDFI. "The soldiers involved in this autopsy are purely determined by the PDFI," he said. (NIA)
