Cher Cares About AIDS

Pop star Cher arrives on the amfAR Gala red carpet. This event aims to raise funds for AIDS research.

With a long black dress and black fur coat, Cher appeared on the red carpet amfAR Gala in Cannes, France, Thursday (23/5 /2024). He came not only to appear on stage, but also to support efforts to end AIDS globally.

The amfAR Gala is an event held to raise funds for AIDS research. This event is organized by amfAR, a foundation for AIDS research which also works for HIV prevention, education, and advocacy for HIV/AIDS. According to the amfAR website, the foundation has raised a total of 900 million US dollars since 1985.

"This issue is close to my heart and this is not my first experience with amfAR, as I have been working with my friends for a long time," said Cher, who is also a recipient of the Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy Awards.

Cher is not only present to support this 30th annual event. She also took to the stage and performed several songs, such as "Walking in Memphis," "Waterloo," and "If I Could Turn Back Time."

In addition to Cher, a number of celebrities were also seen on the red carpet of the event. Some of them were Demi Moore, Michelle Yeoh, Heidi Klum, Paris Jackson, and Bella Thorne. The event raised funds through a dinner ticket worth 25,000 US dollars (around 401 million Rupiah) and an auction of several items, such as works of art by artist Andy Warhol. (REUTERS/PEOPLE)
