The National Police Service Car Crashed into a Minibus on the MBZ Toll Road due to the Driver being Drowsy

Both parties agreed to resolve this problem with restorative justice.

The MBZ elevated toll road towards Karawang is closed and empty of vehicles in the South Bekasi district, Bekasi City, West Java on Tuesday (5/3/2022).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The West Java Regional Police official car crashed into a minibus on the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Flyover or MBZ. It is suspected that the police who were driving the official car were sleepy, resulting in a traffic accident which resulted in the driver and one minibus passenger being slightly injured.

The accident that occurred on Monday (6/5/2024) was handled by the Bekasi City Metro Police. Both parties are said to have agreed to resolve this problem with restorative justice or dialogue and mediation between the perpetrator, victim and related parties. This is done to reach an agreement on a fair and balanced criminal settlement for the victim or perpetrator.

"There is a police report, then deliberations and this police report can be completed with restorative justice," said Head of the Bekasi City Metro Police Traffic Unit, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yugi Bayu Hendarto when confirmed, Tuesday (7/5/2024 ).

A collision occurred when the police car with license plate number 7-VIII was driving from Cikampek towards Jakarta. The car was overtaking other vehicles before hitting the back of a minibus. The minibus was thrown to the right and hit the road divider, while the police car stopped on the road shoulder.

As a result of the incident, the front part of the police car was damaged. Meanwhile, the minibus that was hit from behind suffered quite severe damage on the left side, causing shards of glass from the car to scatter on the road.

The atmosphere of traffic flow under the Mohamed bin Zayed Flyover (MBZ) which was closed on Friday (16/7/2021).

"Official vehicles were driving in a convoy with vehicles in front of them. The distance between the vehicles was too close, causing a collision. The driver and a minibus passenger were slightly injured. They were taken to hospital," he said.

According to Yugi, this police official car had no passengers. The driver was suspected of being sleepy so he was not paying attention while driving.

"Temporary suspicion is that (sleepy). "The crasher said he would repair the minibus," he said.

Official vehicles were driving in a row with other vehicles in front of them. The distance between the vehicles was too close, causing a collision. The minibus driver and one passenger suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the hospital.

Minor injuries

The Head of the Traffic Accident Law Enforcement Unit of Metro Bekasi City Police, Police Inspector Suwandi, said that the tragedy of the accident began when two vehicles were driving from Cikampek towards Jakarta. The driver of the minibus, identified as FRSH, was carrying a passenger at that time.

Behind the minibus appeared a Toyota Fortuner with a police license plate, driven by a man identified as MRA. He collided with the minibus from behind.

The atmosphere on the Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ) Elevated Toll Road in Bekasi City, West Java, which was closed off using plastic barriers, on Friday (16/7/2021).

"The front right side of the police car hit the back left side of the minibus. After that, the minibus immediately hit the median divider," he said.

The police took the vehicles involved in the accident using a tow truck to the Jatibening Traffic Unit Office in Bekasi. The victims, consisting of the minibus driver and passengers, only suffered minor injuries.

PT Jasamarga's GM of Operations and Maintenance for the Cikampek Elevated Roadway, Desti Anggraeni, stated that the accident occurred around 7:00 am WIB. Personnel have already arrived at the site and are addressing the situation regarding the accident.

"The incident involved two vehicles, namely a Mitsubishi minibus and a Toyota Fortuner," said Desti.

At the location of the incident, precisely at Kilometer 14+200 towards Jakarta, a Pajero car collided with a minibus in lane 1. As a result, the minibus grazed the partition wall.

Desti said that there were no fatalities in this accident. Accident handling was completed at 08.25 WIB.

Vehicles enter the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ) Flyover which is on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Wednesday (20/4/2022).

Collisions caused by official cars are not a new occurrence. On Friday (24/11/2023) at 11:00 AM, an official car of the local civil security unit (satpol PP) with red plate number B 9074 PTA collided with two motorcyclists on the elevated road in front of the Sunter Automotive Exchange, Yos Sudarso Street, Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

An accident also occurred on Jalan Raya Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Friday (10/11/2023). A diplomatic service vehicle with registration number CD 27 09 collided with several riders and pedestrians who were walking.

Four pedestrians with initials MR (17), SP (16), IH (19), and a housewife with initials M (43) were injured as a result of being hit by the car.
