The film "Ki Hadjar Dewantara" will be shown on National Education Day 2026

Ki Hadjar Dewantara's inspiration and thoughts on advancing national education will be filmed and broadcast in 2026.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The figure of Ki Hadjar Dewantara as a national hero and father of national education will be filmed. This film, which honors the legacy of concepts and ideas for advancing education left by Ki Hadjar Dewantara, is scheduled to be screened to coincide with the commemoration of National Education Day in 2026.

The film Ki Hadjar Dewantara tells the life, thoughts and ideals of Ki Hadjar Dewantara. The film work initiated and produced by the Wahana Kreator cinema production house received support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).

The process of working on the film Ki Hadjar Dewantara is currently entering the research, story development and script writing period. This film, directed and written by Gina S Noer, is scheduled to be shot in 2025.

Director of Film, Music and Media, Directorate General of Culture, Kemendikburistek, Ahmad Mahendra in Jakarta, Tuesday (7/5/2024), explained that the film Ki Hadjar Dewantara (KHD) could be an example of a good film as a means of learning for the community in an entertaining and enjoyable way.

The Ministry of Education and Culture/Research and Technology continues to support the birth of more national film works that will inspire all levels of Indonesian society. "We continue to strive to support various initiatives, ideas, and works that arise from every Indonesian artist, including films. This is a good effort to support the strengthening of the Indonesian film ecosystem," he said.

This film contains important moral goals and messages to advance the learning paradigm in Indonesia and educate the nation's life in accordance with the spirit of Ki Hadjar Dewantara.

The transformation of education in the past five years through the Merdeka Belajar policy, inspired by the spirit of Ki Hadjar Dewantara, is considered to have begun bringing positive changes to the world of education. The Meeting of the Merdeka Belajar Community and the National KIP Kuliah 2024 Gathering were held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to commemorate National Education Day in Jakarta, Thursday (May 2, 2024).

The Director-General of Culture, Hilmar Farid, explained that various policies of the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom in Learning) program championed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which has now become a movement throughout Indonesia, are rooted in the spirit and ideals of Ki Hajar Dewantara.
