Reza Rahadian, Fabric Auction

Reza Rahadian was moved to donate his fabric collection to be auctioned for the sake of the sustainability of the world of dance.

Actor Reza Rahadian donated one of his woven fabrics to be auctioned at the Fundraising Night by the Indonesian Dance Festival (IDF) at The Dharmawangsa, Jakarta, Thursday (2/5/2024). The cloth that Reza has owned for ten years was sold for IDR 21 million.

The IDF held a fundraising event in an effort to cover the IDF's funding shortfall in 2024, which is estimated to be around Rp 4.98 billion. Currently, only Rp 3.64 billion has been collected. This is the first time IDF has held an auction to seek additional funds. Several celebrities are involved in the effort, including Reza.

Regarding the cloth, Reza said that in 2014 he was involved in shooting in Sumba for the film Pendekar Tongkat Emas. In this film, he plays Biru, one of Cempaka's (Christine Hakim) students.

Reza Rahadian was on the red carpet at the Piala Citra (Citra Awards) Festival Film Indonesia 2023 at Ciputra Artpreneur, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/11/2023).

During the filming break, he toured the village and met with several mothers who weave cloth. One of them explained about the fabric she weaves with other mothers. Reza then explained the process, including the use of organic or natural dyes for coloring.

Reza fell in love with the cloth dominated by a maroon red color and bought it. "I will use this cloth during my career journey," said Reza in front of the guests.

He added that the fabric has personal and emotional value. However, that night he was willing to let it go for auction for the advancement of the dance world. Because, Reza highly respects dance as a part of life because it reflects body movement and meaning. This is not much different from the acting world he is involved in: movement and meaning.

That night, Reza's collection of cloth became a hot commodity during an auction with bidding increasing by Rp 1 million increments. The cloth was sold for Rp 21 million and the entire proceeds were allocated to IDF.
