Porsche Updates Electrification Line

Electrification is also affecting prestigious speed cars. Porsche updates Taycan and Panamera.

Porsche has released an update to its Taycan model, which is powered purely by electricity. The three variants seen in this photo are the Taycan sports sedan, Taycan Cross Turismo, and Taycan Sport Turismo.

The fast car brand, Porsche, is updating its electrified models. The Taycan range of pure electric car models can be charged faster and move faster. Meanwhile, the Panamera model family has expanded with the emergence of two new plug-in hybrid powered variants.

Taycan is the first purely electric model from this sports car manufacturer from Stuttgart, Germany. The first generation of this model was first launched in 2019. Since its inception, the Taycan has overturned people's perception that pure electric cars can go very fast without reducing the sensation of agility and thunderous sound.

Kompas tested directly the performance of the Taycan, which in Turkish means "agile horse" at the Porsche World Road Show (PWRS) at the Sentul Circuit, Bogor, West Java, in February 2023. At that time, eight laps of the circuit seemed not enough.

His agility in cornering is truly evident. There is also the sound of an artificial “engine” roaring. Acceleration is even more agile than combustion engine models, such as the 911 and Boxster. The adrenaline rush of driving a sports car is flowing. Driving an electric car has never been so fun.

The characteristics make the Taycan quite attractive. Three years after its release, precisely in 2022, Porsche has produced around 100,000 units of Taycan. In Indonesia, Taycan entered in the third quarter of 2020 and was priced nearly at Rp 3 billion - even more with added special features.

The electric-powered sport sedan Taycan is claimed to be able to accelerate from a complete stop to a speed of 100 km per hour in just 4.8 seconds.

Five years after giving birth to the Taycan, Porsche has updated its performance and technology. This update includes three variants, namely the Taycan sports sedan, Taycan Cross Turismo crossover, and Taycan Sport Turismo wagon. Meanwhile, the most powerful variant, the Taycan Turbo GT, was launched in three countries at once, namely Germany (in the city of Leipzig), the US (Atlanta) and China (Shanghai), on March 13 2024.

”This series of updates improves performance and driving dynamics. "On the other hand, we are also able to increase efficiency, range and comfort in everyday use," said Kevin Giek, head of the Porsche Taycan model line in a written statement.

On the performance side, according to Giek, this Taycan update is able to accelerate more swiftly. The Taycan sport sedan variant and Taycan Turbo S can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h from a complete stop in just 4.8 seconds and 2.4 seconds, respectively. This claim is 0.6 seconds and 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor. The acceleration improvement may not be significant for daily use, but on the racetrack, a difference of less than 1 second is very meaningful.

The range of its battery capacity has increased quite dramatically, which is 175 kilometers. This latest version of Taycan is said to be able to travel up to 678 kilometers when fully charged. This means that the latest version of Taycan can be used from the Porsche Center dealer in Simprug, South Jakarta, to Alun-alun Kota Madiun in East Java without the need to recharge on the way, depending on traffic conditions and driving style.

This lineup of updates improves performance and driving dynamics.

The battery charging technology has also been updated. In the previous version, the charging time for high-powered batteries from 10 percent to 80 percent took 37 minutes. While the latest technology shortens the time to 18 minutes. Meanwhile, the battery capacity has increased from 93 kWh to 105 kWh.

Comfort and control are directly proportional to the use of adaptive air suspension as a standard option. This suspension is claimed to keep the body level even when the car is being pulled in corners, accelerating sharply, or braking drastically. With a low center of gravity, this suspension technology promises a pleasurable driving experience.

The features are also more complete, such as parking assistance, rearview mirrors that can fold automatically with illumination, and heated front seats. Uniquely, the weight of the car is actually 15 kilograms lighter. Porsche Indonesia, the official distributor of this brand, plans to bring in a new version of the Taycan around September 2024.

Hybrid

The Panamera series, Porsche's top level line, adds to its family with the presence of two variants powered by a combination of electric motors and combustion engines. These two variants are named Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Panamera 4S E-Hybrid. Both have a battery scheme that can be plugged into electricity to charge (plug-in hybrid).

In the 4 E-Hybrid variant, Panamera is equipped with a biturbo V6 gasoline engine with a capacity of 2.9 liters. The combination of the engine and its electric motor produces a maximum power of 470 PS and peak torque of 650 Nm. Its top speed is 280 km/h and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

Meanwhile, the 4S E-Hybrid variant is suitable for maintaining high speeds at the upper engine rotation. The combination of the 2.9-liter biturbo engine and its electric motor produces 544 PS of power and a peak torque of 750 Nm. Its acceleration capability is from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

An electric motor powered by a 25.9 kWh capacity battery drives the car from a stationary position. Up to a speed of 55 km/h, the combination of electric motor and engine work together to transfer power through a dual-clutch transmission. Porsche claimed that the battery is strong enough to cover a distance of up to 96 kilometers.

Similar to Taycan, Panamera also uses adaptive air suspension. Each wheel has its own hydraulic pump. The vibration damper operates at 13 hertz, which means it moves to adjust up to 13 times per second in response to shock. As a result, this suspension is said to be able to absorb almost all body shocks. Imagine how comfortable it would be to speed in a Panamera.

Porsche Indonesia has opened orders for this latest Panamera. Buyers can choose the car equipment according to their wishes. The budget adjusts.
