Within the next few days, the Group of 20 Summit will be held in Bali on November 15-16. The world will direct its attention to the event and hope for the success of this summit.
A record 468 international and national media have registered to cover the G20 top-level conference. A total of 1,465 international journalists and 363 national journalists will be present in Bali and 81 others will follow the summit virtually.
The success of the Indonesian presidency can be viewed in two aspects: First, in the success of its implementation. Many circles are involved, consisting legislative members, entrepreneurs, religious figures, youths, women and other communities. The echo of the G20 thus reverberates both at home and abroad, without the impression of being elitist.
Despite the many uncertainties still prevailing, hundreds of meeting agendas have so far been carried out and none of them, including ministerial meetings, have been canceled.
Second, in the success of agreements achieved by the forum of the European Union and 19 countries with the world’s largest economies. Despite the many uncertainties still prevailing, hundreds of meeting agendas have so far been carried out and none of them, including ministerial meetings, have been canceled.
As many as 16 heads of state and one regional organization have confirmed their presence at the G20 Summit. United States President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping have also confirmed their attendance. Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, has stated his intention to attend but has not yet been decided.
The presence of the heads of state will be a great achievement for Indonesia because at present the world is not in a favorable condition. Many countries are facing tough challenges after being plagued by the COVID-19 pandemic for over two years. There are impacts from the Russia-Ukraine war that has lasted for almost a year, causing rivalry between the two countries to further heighten. “Heads of state are having a headache,” said President Jokowi in a special interview with Kompas.
Whether this summit will produce treaties or results that will not be easily implemented remains a big question. This is the most serious issue for Indonesia’s mandate of the G20 presidency.
This is also the mandate contained in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, which is to participate in realizing world order on the basis of freedom, eternal peace and social justice.
The competence of Indonesia to invite and provide the conditions for G20 heads of state to share their feelings and jointly resolve the problems of humanity is key. This is also the mandate contained in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, which is to participate in realizing world order on the basis of freedom, eternal peace and social justice.
The G20 presidency serves as an opportunity for Indonesia to demonstrate its leadership to the world. The world’s confidence in Indonesia is being built. As stated by the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, Indonesia will become a bright point amid a dim world.
