JAKARTA, KOMPAS - A security camera caught Putri Candrawathi at the police residential complex in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta, suggesting that she was complicit in the murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, also known as Brigadier J. Though Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo’s wife has been named a suspect, she has yet to be arrested.
Before Putri, four people were named suspects, namely Ferdy, Bhayangkara Dua (Second Agent) E or Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu, Brig. Ricky Rizal and Kuat Ma’ruf who worked at Ferdy’s residence. Like the others, Putri was charged with Article 340 and subsidiary Article 338, in conjunction with articles 55 and 56 of the Criminal Code. Article 340 stipulates that premeditated murder is punishable by death or 20 years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, more police officers are being investigated for the alleged obstruction of the investigation of Nofriansyah’s murder. The figure now amounts to 83 officers, from the previous 25. Six of them were suspected of obstructing the investigation, namely Ferdy, Brig. Gen. HK, Comr. ANP, Adj. Comr. AR, Comr. BW and Comr. CP.
The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) director for general crimes, Brig. Gen. Andi Rian, said in a press conference concerning Putri’s naming as a suspect in Jakarta on Friday (19/8/2022), that there were two pieces of evidence pointing to Putri’s involvement in Nofriansyah’s murder. One was a witness testimony.
The other piece of evidence was CCTV security-camera footage showing Putri’s whereabouts on Jl. Saguling in South Jakarta, where her private home is located, near Ferdy’s official residence at the police complex in Duren Tiga. Nofriansyah was fatally shot at the official residence.
“Evidence from electronic devices in Saguling and around the crime scene is circumstantial evidence, suggesting that PC [Putri] was in Saguling and Duren Tiga taking part in the murder of Brig. Yosua,” said Andi.
The recording showed that Ferdy entered his private home on Jl. Sahuling at 3:29 p.m. Then, 12 minutes later, Putri’s car and her entourage from Magelang, Central Java, arrived at the house at 3:40 p.m.
Previously, Kompas also obtained security-camera footage showing Putri’s whereabouts on 8 July when Nofriansyah was allegedly murdered at Ferdy’s official residence. The recording showed that Ferdy entered his private home on Jl. Sahuling at 3:29 p.m. Then, 12 minutes later, Putri’s car and her entourage from Magelang, Central Java, arrived at the house at 3:40 p.m.
At 5:05 p.m., Putri was seen leaving the house. Her car left at 5:07 p.m. then arrived at the police complex in Duren Tiga at 5:09 p.m. Ferdy then left the house at 5:10 p.m. and arrived at the police complex at 5:11 p.m. Then, at 5:20 p.m., Putri was seen arriving back at her private house at 17:23 p.m. It was suspected that Nofriansyah died at that time.
According to Andi, Putri had been examined on three occasions. Investigators wanted to examine her again on Thursday (18/8) but were unable to due to a doctor’s letter stating that she must rest for seven days. However, investigators continued their investigation on Thursday. As of Friday, Putri has not yet been arrested. Moving forward, the police will also coordinate with Putri’s doctor.
More suspects possible
According to the National Police’s special taskforce head Comr. Gen. Agung Budi Maryoto, the six police officers who are being suspected of obstructing the investigation will also be examined. The investigators, he added, will also examine two police reports from the South Jakarta police regarding the incident of Nofriansyah’s death, which were dismissed by Bareksrim. These reports include Nofriansyah’s attempted murder of Eliezer and Nofriansyah’s alleged sexual assault against Putri.
A total of 17 civilians and police officers, one of whom is Ferdy, are being investigated for getting rid of evidence related to the case.
Bareskrim cybercrime director Brig. Gen. Asep Edi Suheri revealed that after the case was filed, there could be more suspects in the murder of Nofriansyah. A total of 17 civilians and police officers, one of whom is Ferdy, are being investigated for getting rid of evidence related to the case.
Those who destroy and remove evidence can be charged with articles 32 and 33 of the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, in addition to articles 221 and 223 of the Criminal Code.
Meanwhile, the monitoring and investigation team of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) and the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) reminded investigators to respect Putri’s rights as a woman going against the law.
“We also remind Bu PC [Putri] to tell the truth so that the legal process is not prolonged,” said Komnas HAM commissioner Sandrayati Moniaga. (PDS/SON/DEA)
