Indonesia Brings Up Issue of Economic Recovery via Digital Technology

ZURICH, KOMPAS — Indonesia raised the issue of economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, which took place on 22-26 May 2022 in Davos, Switzerland. One potential recovery effort is to optimize the role of technology in the digital economy.
"We [the Indonesian delegation] will convey the role of the digital economy in which there are micro, small and medium enterprises [MSMEs]. They use digital technology to recover," said the director general of information and public communication at the Communication and Information Ministry (Kominfo), Usman Kasong, on Saturday night (21/5/2022) in Zurich.
The Communications and Information Ministry is one of 11 ministries/agencies present at the Indonesian pavilion at the 2022 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos. The Communications and Information Ministry even presented as a participant at the annual meeting. In this activity, Indonesia brought a number of technology companies, such as Grab Indonesia, GoTo, WIR Group and Cakap.
According to Usman, three issues in the G20 Digital Economy Working Group were also raised by Indonesia at the WEF 2022 event. The three issues comprised digital connectivity, digital literacy and cross-border data flows.
Indonesian officials scheduled to attend the WEF 2022 include Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto. In addition to the digital economy, the Indonesian delegation will also introduce the topic of energy transition. The Investment Coordinating Board is scheduled to attend and will discuss efforts to attract investment in Indonesia.

The “G20 Empower Second Plenary Meeting: Women In SMEs As Drivers of Economic Growth” event in Yogyakarta, Wednesday (18/5/2022), showcased various domestic products produced by women.
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) participated as part of the Indonesian delegation. Kadin will focus on presenting the agenda material for the 20 or B20 business forums in a series of G20 events in Indonesia. One of the priority agendas of B20 relates to energy transition.
Geopolitical challenges
The theme of the WEF 2022 annual meeting is “Working Together, Restoring Trust”. Issues to be discussed include government policies and business strategies against the backdrop of the global pandemic, the Ukrainian-Russian political conflict and geopolitical-economic challenges. The WEF meeting also discussed how to combat climate change and shift away from fossil fuels.
His party hopes that the policies of countries to utilize renewable energy will be realized quickly so that they can immediately create decent jobs for workers in the sector.
Quoting the WEF blog, secretary-general of the International Trade Union Confederation Sharan Burrow said that the efforts to maintain world economic stability must work in tandem with the efforts to cope with climate change quickly. His party hopes that the policies of countries to utilize renewable energy will be realized quickly so that they can immediately create decent jobs for workers in the sector.
WWF International director general Marco Lambertini emphasized that the issue of climate change will be seriously discussed at WEF 2022. Organizations across the world must be held accountable for the decline in biodiversity. They need to quickly set global goals to tackle the problem.
