JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The 2022 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS Hybrid 2022) will again be held in JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. This annual automotive exhibition, which will take place from 31 March to 10 April 2022, also marks the growth of the automotive industry amid the post-Covid-19 economic recovery.
All stakeholders, from the government, producers, distributors, financing companies to accessory manufacturers, are also expected to work together. This collaboration is intended to drive the growth of the automotive sector, as well as to support national economic growth.
Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto mentioned this at the opening of the exhibition and a sharing session with leaders of the sponsor companies and automotive brand agents for IIMS Hybrid 2022, on Thursday (31/3/2022), in Jakarta.
IIMS Hybrid 2022 is organized by Dyandra Promosindo. Also present at the opening of this exhibition were Kompas Gramedia CEO Lilik Oetama; Dyandra Promosindo president director Hendra Noor Saleh; Industry Ministry Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronic Industries Director General Taufiek Bawazier; PT PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo.
Airlangga said a number of indicators have shown economic recovery in Indonesia. One of them was economic growth in the fourth quarter of 202, which reached 5.02 percent. Among them were the non-oil and gas industry, automotive or transportation equipment industries, which grew 22.61 percent annually.
Utilization in the motor vehicle sector is also considered to be improving, one of which is supported by sales tax on luxury goods (PPnBM) incentives in the automotive sector.
"In 2021, from a budget of Rp 3.46 trillion [US$240.95 million], the realization of PPnBM incentives has reached Rp 4.63 trillion or 133 percent. This shows the enthusiasm of the people and the recovery of market demand. Meanwhile, in January-February, the realization was Rp 15.8 billion," said Airlangga.
In 2022, through a Finance Ministerial Regulation, until the first quarter, a 100 percent reduction in PPnBM on cars priced below Rp 200 million will remain in effect. The incentive will continue until December 2022.
“However, [the figure] will decrease every quarter. [So], if the demand is sufficient, [then] it is [good]," he said.
He added that sales of four-wheeled vehicles in February reached 81,000 units, an increase of 65 percent on an annual basis. Sales of two-wheeled vehicles and exported vehicles are also said to have increased.
Meanwhile, Taufiek said with the government allowing people to go on mudik (exodus) for Idul Fitri, the growth of the automotive industry or transportation equipment is predicted to reach 40 percent. It is also believed that the industrial ecosystem will also grow.
IIMS Hybrid 2022 is being participated by at least 15 car brands and 14 motorcycle brands, including BMW, Hyundai, Jeep, Mazda, Honda, Prestige, Toyota, Suzuki, Wuling and Tesla. Also participating are dozens of brands of vehicle support systems or facilities. During the exhibitions, health protocols are still in place.
"Every year, IIMS becomes a real work of Dyandra, who is part of Kompas Gramedia, in stimulating the automotive industry and its creative industry ecosystem. The new surprise [this year] is the existence of the IIMS NFT Society, which creates a new interactive facility for auto-motivated people," said Hendra.
Electric vehicles
At the opening of the IIMS Hybrid 2022, Airlangga had time to test drive the newly introduced Toyota Kijang Innova EV Concept (electric). However, as the name implies, the car is only a concept and has not been mass-produced or sold. Airlangga welcomed the introduction of the vehicle positively and said three manufacturers had launched electric cars.
The government also continues to encourage the acceleration of the electric vehicle program. Airlangga said, from the calculations, 1 liter of gasoline worth Rp 15,000-Rp 17,000 is equivalent to (electric power of) 1.5 kilowatt hours, which costs Rp 1,500.
“This is a technological solution to reduce our dependence on [fossil] fuel. The government also continues to encourage [the use of] biofuels, such as currently B30 biodiesel. At the Group of 20, electric cars are also used, both for state guests and officials," he said.
The marketing director of PT Toyota Astra Motor, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, said the Innova EV Concept had just been introduced.
“Previously there was the Lexus BEV, then the Toyota BEV, which was small in size. This year, we are even more serious with a bigger car,” he said.
