JAKARTA, KOMPAS — As the current leader of the Group of 20 (G20) countries, Indonesia has invited the world to achieve an inclusive and sustainable economic recovery. Indonesia sees global collaboration as needed to restructure the architecture and governance of health as the main condition for realizing economic recovery.

The appeal was conveyed by Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto in his opening speech of the first G20 Sherpa Meeting held in a hybrid format in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/12/2021).

Airlangga said the G20, as a forum for multilateral economic cooperation, was required to produce concrete steps to accelerate mutual recovery.

He said the G20 had to be prepared for various structural problems that could hinder efficiency and productivity in order to encourage the expansion of an inclusive economy.

"In the face of the current situation, Indonesia’s presidency of the G20 has raised the theme 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger'. With this theme, Indonesia invites the whole world to achieve a stronger, inclusive and sustainable economic recovery," he said.

The principle of inclusivity is implemented in the meeting, to which the G20 has invited representatives of small island countries in the Pacific and Caribbean regions for the first time.

The Caribbean countries, which are made up of Antigua and Bermuda, are represented by the chair of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), while Fiji represents the Pacific countries who have sent the chair of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF).

During a press conference, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati reemphasized the three main issues envisaged in the G20 2022 presidency, namely global health architecture, digital-based economic transformation and the energy transition.

"These three main topics will serve as guidance for drafting policy recommendations that are more pro-people, concrete and applicable," she said.

Indonesia, she added, urged G20 member countries, nonmember countries and international organizations to formulate concrete actions for global economic recovery.
