Glittering lights adorn the Luke Enembe Stadium complex, Jayapura Regency, Papua, Monday (27/9/2021). Construction of the stadium complex began at the end of 2016 until May 2019, and was inaugurated virtually in October 2020. Currently, the stadium complex is being prepared as the venue for the 2021 PON XX Papua opening ceremony.

JAYAPURA, KOMPAS — Optimism among athletes from Papua grew after the host province successfully led the medals tally at the 2021 National Games (PON) on Monday (27/9/2021). Although the Papua PON was officially opened on Saturday (2/10), matches started on Wednesday (22/9), namely for softball, which was held in Jayapura.

As of Monday, the contingent from the “Earth of the Birds of Paradise” (Bumi Cendrawasih) won six golds, one silver and one bronze. Meanwhile, the Jakarta contingent was in second position with three golds, two silvers and three bronzes, followed by Bali in third place with one gold and one silver.
