JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Covid-19 pandemic has created more poverty and various other socioeconomic problems. Therefore, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has renewed its commitment to continue providing benefit for the people and the nation by helping to solve these various problems.
The Rais Aam (leader) of NU’s executive board (PBNU), KH Miftachul Akhyar, when delivering the closing sermon at the National Meeting of Alim Ulama and the NU Grand Conference in Jakarta, on Sunday (26/9/2021), said NU must become a systemic organization and continue to deal with problems at the grassroots level. All nahdliyin (NU members) are expected to increase their awareness of and to understand the problems faced by the community.
“NU is always getting down to the grass roots; it can read and detect the pulse of the community to understand their needs. That\'s what we have to protect," he said.
The National Meeting (Munas) of Alim Ulama and the 2021 NU Grand Conference (Konbes) was held for two days in Jakarta. The second-highest forum after the muktamar (national congress) was only attended by 250 NU executives. In addition to Miftachul, NU leader KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, general chairman KH Said Aqil Siroj and others were also present.
One of the agreements made at the 2021 NU National Conference was that NU will hold its 34thmuktamar on 23-25 December 2021 in Lampung. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the chairman of Rais Syuriah (NU law-making body) KH Ahmad Isomudin, deputy chairman Muhammad Maksum Machfoedz and secretary-general Helmy Faishal Zaini.
NU is always getting down to the grass roots; it can read and detect the pulse of the community to understand their needs.
Although it has been decided to be held at the end of the year, the muktamar, one of whose main agenda items is electing the general chairman of the PBNU, must still seek a permit from the Covid-19 task force.
Miftachul said the PBNU paid attention to the latest information regarding the handling of Covid-19 in Lampung that will host the 34th national congress. According to information, the vaccination rate in Lampung is still relatively low. Only 20 percent of the population have received the first dose of vaccination, while only 6 percent of the population have received the second dose.
Within three months before the muktamar, vaccination in Lampung is expected to increase. Thus, the muktamar can be held properly and does not threaten mutual safety. "The muktamar committee will also periodically review the readiness for the congress. All risks must be anticipated,” said Miftachul.
Voting
According to Isomudin, the meeting also agreed that the election for the general chairman of the PBNU would use a voting method, one person one vote, just like at the 33rdmuktamar in Jombang, East Java. As for NU’s rais aam (supreme leader), a representative of the best people at the PBNU will choose one of them.
Chairman of the East Java chapter (PWNU), KH Marzuki Mustamar, added that there would be 600 executives, from the PCNU, PWNU, PBNU and PCINU who have voting rights. PWNU East Java hopes the figure of the NU general chairman will be a genuine NU member who is pious, well-mannered and has a noble character. In addition, he also has the spirit to maintain national unity and integrity. (DEA)
