Indonesia is actually facing a serious food problem as a result of stagnant production, ever increasing food imports and the food management system that causes problems each year.

Indonesia has experienced stagnation in rice production over the last 20 years. Production output reached 48.9 million tons of dry unhusked rice (GKG) in 2001 and 54.6 million tons of GKG in 2020, an average increase of just 0.73 percent on an annual basis, whereas population growth reached 1.3 to 1.4 percent over the same period.
