The police have arrested two people for illegally accessing the government-made Peduli Lindungi app to produce fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates and sell them. Two other people were arrested for buying the fake vaccination certificates.
JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Jakarta Police arrested HH, 30, a staff member of Kapuk Muara subdistrict office, North Jakarta, for illegally accessing the Peduli Lindungi app to produce fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates. HH, who has access to this population data, cooperated with FH, 23, to sell the fake vaccination certificates to the public.
The police also arrested two people who bought the fake vaccination certificates. They are AN, 21, a private employee who lives in Pamulang, South Tangerang, and BI, 30, a private employee from Serang Baru, Bekasi regency.
This case was disclosed by Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Fadil Imran at a press conference at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Friday (3/9/2021). The press conference was also attended by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
"The perpetrators who have been arrested took advantage of the situation in which people need a vaccination certificate to be able to travel or visit certain places as required by the government," said Fadil.
HH took advantage of his access to the Peduli Lindungi app to create vaccination certificates on the Pcare system that is connected to the Peduli Lindungi app. The effort was not in line with the procedure.
Meanwhile, FH, a private employee with a senior high school education, marketed the operation through Facebook. He also played a role in making the fake vaccination certificates and selling them for Rp 320,000 per certificate.
"Based on his temporary recognition, he has sold 93 vaccine certificates that are connected to the Peduli Lindungi app," Fadil added.
They ordered the illegal vaccination certificates to enable them to travel more easily.
AN and BI bought certificates without being vaccinated at a price of Rp 350,000 and Rp 500,000, respectively. They ordered the illegal vaccination certificates to enable them to travel more easily.
The perpetrators\' actions are punishable by six years in prison and a fine of Rp 600 million. This penalty is regulated in articles 30 and 32 of Law No. 19/2016 on the amendment to Law No. 11/2008 on and electronic information and transactions (ITE Law).
Endangering many people
Health Minister Budi deplored the fraud in the use of the Peduli Lindungi app, which, among other things, is useful for checking vaccination status or COVID-19 test results. According to him, the fraud committed in this application, despite being used only for individuals, will harm many people.
“The victim can be us, our family or our neighbors, and one Indonesia. Because, vaccination is important to curb the transmission of the coronavirus. Moreover, the replication of this virus is 1 in 8. So, on one day the virus can spread to eight people, the next day it can affect 64 people, the next day it can be 512 people. Very fast," he said.
Budi urged residents to follow government rules to coexist with COVID-19. This pandemic, according to many experts, will live together with humans for much longer.
Besides regulating the implementation of health protocols, the government also obliges vaccine requirements for citizens to engage in six main activities, namely trade, education, school, transportation, worship and tourism. This requirement needs to be supported by an information technology-based system, such as the Peduli Lindungi app.
"Therefore, let\'s build a more healthy and correct culture by respecting personal rights," he said. (ERK)
