Medical officers at the Covid-19 Emergency Hospital Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Jakarta brought one of the patients with a worsening condition from Tower 5 to the ICU room on the ground floor of Tower 4, Saturday (12/6/2021). Wisma Atlet is one of the country\'s best services for Covid-19 patients. Patients are free of charge for medical services, accommodation and consumption while undergoing isolation at Wisma Atlet.

It was almost midnight, last May, when we arrived at Wisma Atlet. Before getting an apartment unit for isolation, each patient underwent a medical check in the lobby. The first check was to measure oxygen saturation. After that, the patient got their personal data recorded, starting from their medical history to the kind of medicines that have been consumed.

The patient then had their blood tested and also underwent heart check through an electrocardiogram (ECG) test. Because it was past midnight, the X-ray test to determine the condition of the lungs can only be done in the morning.

After all those preliminary tests, medical personnel then escorted the patient to the apartment unit where the patient will stay during the isolation period. There are four towers out of total seven towers at Wisma Atlet, Kemayoran, which are designated for the isolation of Covid-19 patients.

On each floor there are 22 apartment units. Two of these units are designated as nurse rooms and polyclinics.

One unit consists of two rooms. The main bedroom consists of two beds while the other bedroom contains only one bed. There are clean sheets, blankets and towels on the bed. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, wardrobe and storage desk. Wi-Fi connection is available in each unit.

Inside the unit there is also a living room, bathroom and dry area adjoining the kitchen. The bathroom is equipped with a shower, a sink, and a toilet. Hot water in the bathroom is available at all times. Covid-19 patients at Wisma Atlet feel like they have five-star hotel facilities minus room service or VIP class in private hospitals.

At Wisma Atlet, there are no special scheduled visits from doctors or nurses. If you have a complaint, the patient can report it through the WhatsApp group created by the nurse on each floor. Patients can also come directly to the polyclinic if they need medical help. For patients whose condition worsening, they are usually placed at the ICU on the ground floor of Tower 4.

The patient received three meals and one snack per day. The menu for patients who are on a diet is distinguished from other patients. Each menu provides nutritional and protein needs. Vegetables, meat, fish, fruits and milk are never absent.

The patient receives medication and vitamins. The type of medication depends on the symptoms reported. The dose is given an average of three times a day.

Those who are at isolation at the Wisma Atlet can still have sport or exercise. Volleyball, badminton, basketball courts and a place to play futsal are located below. In the morning and evening, patients can also do exercise together.

"We are very lucky that Jakarta has Wisma Atlet," said Wahid, a Covid-19 patient from Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. The facilities at Wisma Atlet make the isolation period not a difficult thing to go through. Wahid can focus on recovering without worrying about infecting his family or neighbors.

The existence of Wisma Atlet also helps Matius’ life. This electronic shop employee at Mangga Dua Mall previously lived at his employer\'s house.

As soon as he tested positive for Covid-19, his employer asked Matius to leave the house and look for a rented house.

“The boss is worried because his wife is pregnant. So, I was told to move for good. I\'m confused about where to go. My body also has a fever. Finally, I took my clothes and went here,” he said.

The patient will get swab test on the ninth day. The results are known the next day. If it’s negative, they are allowed to go home. However, if they are still positive, they may continue to isolate themselves at Wisma Atlet. On the 13th day, again they are swab tested. On average, patients who have been in isolation for more than 12 days will see their test result as negative.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Public Health Experts Association, Husein Habsyi, said that the government needs to think about the existence of integrated isolation places such as Wisma Atlet in the regions. Integrated isolation places can help hospitals not collapse when there is a spike in cases like what has happened in the last few days.
