Large-scale social restrictions, emergency PPKM, micro PPKM with thickening, or whatever the term – strict control of human movement must be an option.

A number of regional heads in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi have urged the central government to take firm steps to control COVID-19.
As of June 20, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases had reached 2,156,465, and deaths had reached 58,024. For more than three days, the daily case number has been in the 20,000s, with Jakarta being the worst-hit region. On Wednesday, 20,467 confirmed cases were recorded.
Health services in Jakarta and other cities on Java have been unable to handle the surge of cases. A number of patients have died, unable to receive adequate services in hospitals.
Referring to data on the level of transmission, the government should evaluate the implementation of micro-scale public activity restrictions (PPKM), which have been extended several times. They should evaluate whether the system of 75 percent working at home and 25 percent working in the office is effective when the streets are still busy. Strict steps are needed to control the movement of people who have the potential to carry the virus.
A number of regional heads have urged the government to take action to control the movement of people. The transmission of COVID-19 is in line with the movement of people. Joint steps are needed to control human movement in Greater Jakarta. If micro PPKM is considered no longer able to control movement, it may be necessary to take steps to make PPKM more effective in controlling mobility.
The government\'s move to accelerate vaccination deserves appreciation. The government\'s move to increase emergency health services in a number of places is also praiseworthy. However, this curative step needs to be supported by preventive measures upstream: temporarily limiting human movement until the curve slopes down.
At the same time, it is necessary to conduct mass testing, isolation and aggressive tracking. The words of Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryopratomo in the Kompas daily on June 29 deserve reflection. "When health can be maintained and the transmission of COVID-19 can be controlled, social capital will be obtained to move the economy. On the other hand, when the health system collapses, anxiety and fear increase. The economy will also be adversely affected.”
Large-scale social restrictions, emergency PPKM, micro PPKM with thickening, or whatever the term – strict control of human movement must be an option. Organizations that are given the authority to mitigate COVID-19 need to more effectively control the elements involved in controlling the virus with one principle; people\'s safety is the highest law. The change in task force personnel and the inactivity of personnel in mitigating COVID-19 must not interfere with the mitigation of the virus.
