The political situation in the country feels stuffy and stifling. The pandemic is not yet under control and various other political problems continue to emerge.
The public has been led to believe that the Covid-19 pandemic will reach its peak at the end of June. Reports from the regions, at least through news coverage in the mass media, are worrisome. The government continues to remind the public to manage mobility. However, it is the reality that we must accept. The pandemic of more than 1.5 years has exhausted this nation. However, unfortunately, some state administrators are not matching words and actions.
While the issue of mitigating the pandemic has not yet been settled, the commotion of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employees has also not been resolved. The commotion has spread. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has told the leadership of the KPK and the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) that the civic knowledge test should not be used as an excuse to dismiss KPK employees. The verdict of the Constitutional Court (MK) also states the same thing.
However, President Jokowi\'s instructions and the Constitutional Court\'s considerations were interpreted differently by KPK chairman Firli Bahuri and the BKN. Such an attitude does not help solve the problem, as it is becoming more and more protracted and could delegitimize the presidential institution and the KPK. Speculation has been spreading everywhere.
Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD said those who committed corruption were united to weaken the KPK. They unite for fear that their cases will be exposed. The expiration period for corruption cases is 18 years. Mahfud\'s statement is disturbing the spirit of eradicating corruption in this country. Eradication of corruption is the mandate of reform. State administrators should not be defeated by those who commit corruption.
The results of a Kompas poll on June 7, 2021 showed that the potential for distrust between the public and the government is growing. Forty respondents deemed that the relationship between the government and the community is poor. This must be considered by President Jokowi as the head of government and head of state to immediately resolve the commotion at the KPK. Forming an independent team is one of the ways.
The political situation has become increasingly stifling with the issue of spending on weapons. The multi-year procurement project was sought to be completed in 2024. On the other hand, the General Elections Commission and Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) had discussed and set elections for Feb. 28, 2024, with the election stages to begin in March 2022. This situation needs to be managed properly. It takes good intentions to decipher the problems one by one because the fate of this nation is at stake.
