Strengthen your faith
President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma\'ruf Amin in his message during Idul Fitri, on Thursday (13/5), said that Idul Fitri 1442 Hijriah should serve as momentum to stand up and defeat the Covid-19 pandemic.
All parties are invited to strengthen their faith, immunity and adhere to health protocols to keep them safe and avoid Covid-19.
People also still have to be patient and restrain themselves because they cannot interact directly, face-to-face, with their families and friends.
The President said, on this year\'s Idul Fitri, Indonesia still has to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. People also still have to be patient and restrain themselves because they cannot interact directly, face-to-face, with their families and friends.
"Indeed, it is very hard, but we have no choice. We must take care of the health and safety of all of us. So that as soon as possible we can be free from the pandemic," said the President in his Idul Fitri greeting.
This year, the President, Vice President, and high-ranking state officials did not perform Idul Fitri prayers at Istiqlal Mosque, but at their respective residences. Istiqlal Mosque also did not organize Idul Fitri prayers.
President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana performed the Idul Fitri prayers on the front yard of the main building of the Bogor Palace. Second Sergeant Ridwan Payopo served as the imam and khatib (preacher) for the prayer. He is as a member of the Personal Security Team for Detachment 1 Group A of the Presidential Security Details (Paspampres).
The President and First Lady Iriana were among the twenty or so people who performed the Idul Fitri prayers at that place. Prayers were held under health protocols, such as maintaining distance, wearing masks and not shaking hands.
In his sermon, Ridwan said, one of the tests given by Allah SWT (God Almighty) is to practice and worship at home.
"We must be patient in accepting this condition because basically, what we do is nothing but in order to obey Allah, the Messenger of Allah, the religious leaders and the authorities, which basically aims to save mankind from the threat of the pandemic," said Ridwan.
All acts of worship performed during Ramadan and Idul Fitri will also strengthen faith. Hopefully, every congregation will be better than before.
Demanding sacrifice
Vice President Ma\'ruf Amin and his wife Wury Estu Handayani Ma\'ruf Amin performed Idul Fitri prayers at the Vice President’s official residence. Serving as a preacher was Ustaz Abdul Muiz Ali.
The vice president said, for the sake of mutual safety, sacrifices must be taken. The government has again issued a homeward exodus ban. "However, this situation should not diminish the meaning of Idul Fitri," said Vice President.
Even though times are tough, the Vice President believes that Indonesia is capable of dealing with it. He emphasized the importance of citizens adhering to health protocols with discipline. "Stay enthusiastic and don\'t give up hope because behind the difficulties there will definitely be convenience," he said.
Separately, in his sermon, chairman of Muhammadiyah Muslim organization, Haedar Nashir, said that after Ramadan and Idul Fitri, every Muslim was expected to improve their human and social relations, namely to become a person with noble character.
"Fellow citizens and national elites should establish peaceful, tolerant, harmonious and brotherly relations even though they have different religions, ethnicities, races, groups and political views. For each other, harmony is created to care for, share, help, tolerate and assist each other. Such mutual cooperation is much more needed during pandemic that requires an attitude of caring and sharing," he said.
Pandemics will not go away if humans are selfish.
Said Aqil Siroj, chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama Muslim organization, in his sermon, said the Covid-19 pandemic taught us the importance of ukhuwah insaniyah or brotherhood between human beings. In order to be overcome, a pandemic requires good cooperation between people. Pandemics will not go away if humans are selfish. "The world and fellow humans must join hands so that the pandemic can be overcome," he said.
A message was also conveyed by the fifth president of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri. She said there was no reason for Indonesia to surrender. “Allow this Idul Fitri to further strengthen our sense of caring. Meet the community, come downstairs, share happiness, help those who need help," he said.
