Emergency “School” at the District Office
The Surabaya City Government provides free internet facilities in 1,300 community halls (RW), sub-district and district offices for students who have difficulty buying internet credit.
Joy was palpable on the faces of 20 elementary school students during an interview in the open-air pavilion of the Tambaksari district office in Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday morning (6/8/2020). The mask-wearing children were using the district office’s free internet connection to attend online classes. Several members of the local Karang Taruna youth group were accompanying them and ensuring that everyone adhered to health protocols.
“I am so happy that I can study here with my friends,” said Ferlita, a sixth grader at SDN Ploso 1 Surabaya state elementary school.
