JAKARTA, KOMPAS – Idul Adha, which will be observed on Friday (31/7/2020), is the right time for Muslims to emulate Prophet Abraham. Obviously, Idul Adha is also a time to spread kindness during the Covid-19 epidemic.
"It is time for us, Muslims, to take the example of the Prophet Abraham who is willing to sacrifice his beloved son. Here is an example for us that to achieve a noble goal requires a sacrifice," said Vice President Ma\'ruf Amin in a pre-recorded video about his Idul Adha 1441 Hijriah wish, on Wednesday (29/7/2020).
The COVID-19 pandemic, with its very fast and dangerous transmission, especially among vulnerable groups -- elderly people and people who have comorbidities – has caused all activities to be reduced. Many people have been affected economically. Many of them have had their incomes reduced or lost their livelihoods.
"It is time for us, Muslims, to take the example of Prophet Abraham, who was willing to sacrifice his beloved child. A noble goal requires a sacrifice. "
Thus, Vice President Amin also reminded that Idul Adha in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic should be a time to increase good deeds by helping fellow countrymen. "Today is the right time to do it because there are many countrymen who desperately need our helping hands," he appealed.
All good deeds and sacrifice carried out during Idul Adha will support harmony, in religious communities and the nation. "Hopefully, this Idul Adha can increase our faith and piety and foster our compassion and sensitivity toward others, in order to rebuild a nation that is advanced, productive and safe from Covid-19," he added.
Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi also appealed to all Muslims to follow a circular regarding the slaughtering of sacrificial animals.
The circular stipulates that the slaughtering of the sacrificial animals should adhere to social distancing measures and incorporate the use of personal protective equipment such as face masks, while temperature checks should also be carried out.
As for the Idul Adha prayer, it can be done by maintaining a safe distance between congregation members, while each person should bring their own prayer mat. People who attend the prayer must also be in good health. Officers must also be there to oversee the implementation of health protocols. The worship area must be disinfected. Hand washing facilities or hand sanitizers in the entry and exit paths must be available.
Hopefully we can all sacrifice our egos, to remain patient in the face of a virus outbreak.
"We urge the implementation of Idul Adha prayer and the slaughtering of sacrificial animals to adjust the implementation of the new normal order. Thus, the implementation of Idul Adha prayer and the slaughtering can run optimally and be protected from the transmission of Covid-19," said Fachrul Razi.
Hopefully, Idul Adha can simultaneously improve the quality of piety for all Muslims. "Hopefully, we can all sacrifice our egos, to remain patient in the face of the virus outbreak," added Fachrul Razi.
"Hopefully we can all sacrifice our egos, to remain patient in the face of a virus outbreak."
Previously, the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Executive Board and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) also reminded that the Idul Adha prayer and the slaughtering of sacrificial animals should follow health protocols.
MUI Fatwa Commission secretary Asrorun Ni\'am Sholeh said Idul Adha prayer could be held in congregation in areas where Covid-19 outbreak is under control. Nevertheless, health protocols should never be abandoned. As for areas where Covid-19 transmission rate is still high, Asrorun told the people to continue to carry out Idul Adha prayers at home. People with a high risk of contracting the disease, such as elderly citizens and those who have a congenital disease, are also expected to perform the Idul Adha prayer from home.
The slaughtering of sacrificial animals is encouraged to maximize the role of the abattoirs to reduce crowds. In addition, the sacrificial meat distribution should be carried out by a committee to avoid the queue.
